Elmar Karla is a muralist, painter, illustrator, and tattoo artist based in Bremen, Germany. Absurd, bold, and detailed, his work’s beauty borders discomfort, which is really just misinterpreted uncertainty. Discomfort provides fertile ground for generating new directions. In ceaselessly seeking this sensation, Karla’s body of work carves space for experimentation and the uninhibited exchange of ideas.
Karla has shared his artistic mission with institutions including Hamburg’s MS Artville festival,IBUG Festival, OD Gallery Amsterdam, Urbanshit Gallery Hamburg, Leipzig’s Hier + Jetzt exhibition space, and the NSDM Straatmuseum in Amsterdam, curated by Peter Coolen. He has collaborated with artists and friends like Milu Correch, Lean Frizzera, and Diego Cerulli.
